More about Simone-Monet Wahls

I always looked for ways to expand the dimensions of my classroom, so I jumped at any opportunity to be professionally developed.”, says Monet. She used Multiple Intelligences, Outward Bound and Ventures training to develop inquiry, project-based and differentiated lessons for her students.

With the mission of FE in mind, some incentives for her students to succeed were opportunities to visit: MTV sets, magazine editors, basketball & baseball games as well as behind the scenes access to concerts & video shoots.

By 2003, she was a appointed as Senior Education Administrator at the DOE for Brooklyn south and Staten Island school districts. She began working with Principals, teachers, parents and students to enhance instructional practices for children with special needs. “I’m impressed with her willingness to take risks, learn and grow as a professional educator.”, says Michelle Fratti, former Region 7 Superintendent.

As Future Executives, Inc. approaches its 20th anniversary, Simone-Monet has launched futureexecutives.org. Monet believes, “This website will accelerate FE’s ability to carry out its mission to children and their families.” “FE was on the “slow cook” setting for a few years. “We have been developing our recipes which required the “perfect” sprinkling in of old friends/ideas with a dash of new spicy friends/concepts.”, says Monet. “Now we are ready to present our “assorted entrees” of service to the world. FEeast and be merry.”

Who are your top 5 hero’s and why?

  1. My grandmother-she believed in me when no one (including me) didn’t.  She is always optimistic and looks for the rainbow during, and after the storm.
  2. Single parents- the sacrifices and balancing act of raising a great soul other than your own while still growing (sometimes painfully) yourself.
  3. Deepak Chorpra- BFF in my head!  He,as well as Gandhi inspired me to take the “zen” route as I do believe the mind is a powerful tool and manifests all that I think (sub-consciously as well)-so I need to think positive as often as possible!   And, take responsibility for my actions and the consequences.
  4. Nelson Mandela- the strength and courage to sacrifice his family and sanity for what he believed.  After being jailed for 27 years, he still came out of jail with a loving yet determined and strong spirit.
  5. Oprah-the ultimate model of living out your true passion and being a philanthropist.

Why do you think it is important to volunteer?

Volunteering is gratifying to me because I generally do so through one of my many passions. It is a delight to work with people to help them see their talents or reach their goals.  I find  this work energizes me because there is a reciprocal process that occurs on a level that I can’t always see, but feel immensely.  I know that we are all meant to help each other on this life journey as much as possible.  Many say time is an issue and I say it’s a poor excuse because, “you make time in your life for what you want”.

What are your hobbies?

Running my son around to his many activities (chuckle) watching CNN, chatting with friends on-line, reading, going to museums, mediation, dancing, singing, cooking, being a joker and drama mama (chuckle),napping, monitoring, and maintaining futureexecutives.org.

If you could have a wish granted for the perfect profession what would it be?

I would travel all over the world and create education/community centers with the best technological equipment in impoverished areas. I would also help build schools, housing, and water wells in those same areas, and video document their culture and ceremonies while learning as much as I could about their languages and traditions.
