Passion:How to Monetize Your Passion

Choosing Your Passion

I’m sure we’ve all heard that the key to a happy life is to do what you love, but rarely are we told just how to accomplish this. The truth of the matter is, most people don’t see traditional jobs as passions, even if that’s been their life goal from the very beginning. Sure, they’re interested and happy, but it’s not what they do for fun. There are a lot of people today who have no idea what job they want to pursue, but know exactly what makes them happy. To those people, I say you don’t necessarily have to pursue a job. You can pursue your passion, and turn it into a job along the way. ┬áHere’s how I recommend you start the journey.

1.) Focus on one activity.

Some people have fifty passions, while others have just two. That’s okay, I myself can name twenty interests off of the top of my head. However, to make money off of your passion, you have to be good at it, and that takes time and focus. Choose just one to put your time into, and come up with ideas for it. How you choose it is up to you. I suggest you consider how much you enjoy it, how good you already are, and whether or not you can see yourself still doing it in ten years. For example, say your passion is drawing. Are you ever going to get tired of it? Do you have a long way to go until you’re confident about it? Think about how much you’re going to have to put into it, and whether or not you’re willing to put in that effort. Know that this is going to take a long time and that it’s best to choose something you’re absolutely sure you like doing.

2.) Start brainstorming

Now that you’ve chosen a hobby, you need to know what you’re going to do with it. In other words, how are you going to make money doing it? Say your chosen hobby is horseback riding. Maybe you can make videos, and collect ad revenue online. Perhaps you know a photographer who can take action shots of you, and the two of you could make money off of prints or image royalties. Be creative, and do your research. Look at popular people within circles related to the hobby, and take inspiration from their paths. What did they do? How did they start? Why do you look up to them? Etc, etc.

3.) Practice and improve

To get any money, you have to be good at what you do, and you get good through hard work and dedication.

4.) Set the groundwork

5.) Establish milestones
