New York Historical Society has a nationally-recognized Student Historian Internship Program (link to apply below). They are accepting applications for the 2015-2016 academic year. Interns this year will develop their research and public speaking skills and host a museum event of their own, all while learning more about careers in museums and libraries. This semester, they are offering courses in APUSH exam prep, constitutional history, comic history, and SAT prep. Here’s a bit about the two free programs:
Six Saturdays: October 17, 24, 31 and November 7, 14, and 21 from 10am – 1pm.
Registration Deadline: October 2, 2015, or when classes fill to capacity
The New-York Historical Society offers Gilder Lehrman Saturday Academy, a free, six-week program for students in grades 8–12 that offers courses in American Studies, AP U.S. History, and SAT prep. With no homework or tests, these courses offer fun and interesting information on the bits of history that don’t always find their way into the classroom. Students meet for six Saturdays each session and may take one class or two. All classes are offered twice, at 10-11:30 am, then again at 11:40 am-1 pm. Courses this fall include: Funny Papers, Serious Subjects; Search and Seizure: Understanding the Fourth Amendment; AP U.S. History Prep; and SAT Prep.
Wednesdays, November 18, 2015 – June 1, 2016, 4:00-6:30 PM,
plus Friday, May 27, 2016
Application Deadline: October 5, 2015
The Student Historian High School Internship Program is designed for students in grades 10, 11, and 12 in the tri-state area. The Student Historian program is a comprehensive internship and youth development program that provides students with vocational and academic training, develops their public speaking and leadership skills, and increases their understanding of American art and history. Through object- and inquiry-based learning, students broaden their academic perspective, increase their confidence in professional settings, and enhance their knowledge of fulfilling careers in the museum world.
