Violence within teen dating has been a pretty longstanding and massive elephant in the room among Generation Z – and lately, the elephant has been getting even bigger. In fact, the statistics are pretty outrageous.
A recent Youth Risk Behavior Survey which questioned 15,000 high school students found that about 1 in 10 of the adolescents had experienced physical dating violence. If that is not cringe-worthy enough, the psychological abuse amongst teens, as might be expected, is much higher.
Somewhere around 85% of teen boys and 92% of teen girls engaged in psychological aggression against a partner in their current dating relationship, according to a study by the Journal of Adolescent Health.
In my line of work, helping to build brands and develop business through digital marketing, I know the first step toward any influence is awareness. In this case, awareness comes in the form of shining a light on a pervasive and dangerous trend.
That is why Future Executives will be contributing to the cause of making teen dating violence a globally recognized issue facing millions of teens, by partnering up with up with The Healing Center and their 5th Annual Teen Dating Violence Awareness Walk-a-thon. You can help too!
We hope you could join this noble cause by participating in the live event, which will start in Downtown Brooklyn and lead across the iconic Brooklyn Bridge to Manhattan’s City Hall.
But helping comes in more forms other than live participation.
My global team of youth digital marketing diplomats will be doing their part in spreading widespread awareness through leveraging a collective social network consisting of hundreds of thousands. We hope you will do the same by following Future Executives on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and sharing our messaging and #teenviolenceawareness or #sexualassaultawareness hashtags.
Every post counts. Without awareness, nothing can change.
