Fred T. Jackson is Promotion Director for ESSENCE joining the company in February of 2007. In this role, Fred develops and executes consumer promotion programs that introduce and alert ESSENCE’s millions of readers and online viewers, marketing partners, as well as urban culture enthusiasts to the programs that are produced by the magazine. In his short tenure, Fred has already had the pleasure to work on such high-profile programs including the debut of the Smart Style fashion study, the ESSENCE Music Festival, the premiere of the web series 30 Dates in 30 Dates and the Women Who are Shaping the World leadership summit.
Before ESSENCE, Fred spent close to 10 years at VIBE where he conceptualized and implemented merchandising opportunities in support of VIBE marketing partners. The department developed added-value material such as in-book advertisements, contests, sweepstakes, merchandise items and grassroots promotional material. Fred consulted and monitored client-directed events with the Marketing Events Department and worked with the Market Research and Creative Services Departments to write copy for presentation materials and media advertising.
Fred began his career in the music industry as a Promotion assistant at Elektra Records in 1988 and left in 1995 as a Marketing Manager for the reconstructed Elektra Entertainment Group. Fred also spent two years at LIFEbeat, The Music Industry Fights AIDS producing fundraising events and programs including the highly publicized urbanAID 4 LIFEbeat benefit project.
