What is National Give Something Away Day?

National Give Something Away Day is celebrated on July 15 every year. It is a holiday that encourages altruism among the community. The holiday is celebrated  nationwide and is meant to celebrate acts of kindness and encourage people to show compassion to others.

How Do We Celebrate National Give Something Away Day

There are two specific ways to celebrate this day. The first way to help is via donations . The second way to help is through volunteerism.

Donations

Some of us are lucky enough to have everything we need to survive and thrive in this world. Unfortunately, there are some who are not that fortunate. Many struggle to provide for themselves and their families because of  current health problems, financial problems, or other hardships. Because of this, these individuals need help from their communities.

During National Give Something Away Day you can help these individuals by donating items to organizations that help children and families facing these type of hardships. Here are some items you can donate:

  • Food
  • Toys
  • Usable Appliances
  • Clothes
  • Cash

Volunteering

Volunteer your time at a local nonprofit organization to provide crucial services to those in need. There are many opportunities at these organizations. Here are some things you can volunteer to do:

  • Help prepare and deliver meals for the elderly
  • Feed the homeless
  • Help children with their homeworks
  • Use time to collect clothing for children and families

As a volunteer, you will expand your understanding of community wide problems and get the chance to do good.
