“When I spin, I try to do one thing. Create a singular experience for the ears, feet, mind, body & soul,” – The Legendary
Now as the resident MasterMixer on WBLS~107.5FM, New York’s top rated Urban AC and the ONLY Black Owned station in the market. I carry the musical torch of those that came before me – Frankie Crocker, Hal Jackson, Merlin Bobb, Mr. Magic, Ken “Spider” Webb, Jonathan Docker, Marly Marl, Bobby Konders and all the Legendary DJs of WBLS. As the man behind the music of the Friday Midday Mix~1pm-2pm and on the Weekend MasterMix Saturday Nights~9pm- 11pm, The Legendary has the potential to reach an estimated weekly audience of1.5million in the world’s Number One market.
Before the jump to commercial radio The Legendary was host of a syndicated college mix-show, that was heard in eight markets, including Norfolk, VA (WNSB), Greensboro, NC (WNAA), and Durahm, NC (Audionet).
IN THE BEGININNG…I was just a regular DJ. My childhood friend Greg “EZ Boy” Johnson, introduced me to the craft. Those early years were spent trying (and not very well) to understand the basics of the trade. At Howard University, I DJed my way through college. As a freshman, in 1986, I began to appreciate music from the other sections of the country; house from Chicago, bass from Florida, and go-go from D.C. Starting at Howard’s student radio station, WHBC; my first paid gig came in my sophomore year and eventually, I worked my way into being one of the top 3 DJs on The Yard, spinning parties for every organization; from freshman week through homecoming to graduation.
THE LEGENDARY CONTINUES…More than10 years later and over 20 years since I first dropped a needle, I’m still in the game, playing all the flavors from across the nation (outside as well) from rap to reggae, R’n’B to club & house, salsa y meringue, slow jams to jazz, funk to rock to pop and, of course, the classics.
Sharing my gift with you. It’s music The Legendary way. Enjoy.
